RWJBarnabas Health provides community outreach sports training services to local high schools, colleges, professional athletes, performing artists, organizations and workplaces. Athletic trainers are board-certified health care professionals who specialize in the prevention, assessment, management, and rehabilitation of injuries resulting from physical activity. As part of a comprehensive health care team, athletic trainers work under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other professionals such as school nurses, physiotherapists, athletic administrators, school administrators company, coaches and parents.

Currently, RWJBarnabas Health supports athletic training partnerships statewide, ranging from full-time support to supplemental/replacement per diem support. Important information regarding athletic training services

Who can benefit from the on-site sports trainer?

Athletic Schools and Community Organizations: Only students who participate in an inter-school sports team can take advantage of all AT services within the school. (Other members of the school community can consult with your athletic trainer if you have questions, and they will guide you with appropriate next steps.)

  • When a student-athlete is injured, the RWJBH Athletic Coach will assess the athlete’s injury and communicate the participation status and recommended plan of care to the individual (and parent/guardian if underage). In the event that it is recommended that you/your child seek further medical evaluation (i.e. provider the athlete sees.
  • Student-athletes: If you see a physician or outside health care provider for a condition that affects participation in school sports, you must provide a note from their health care provider stating:

    • Injury/condition
    • Membership status
    • Any additional recommendations, limitations and/or specific instructions

Workplaces and performance artists: Anyone who is an official employee of this organization and who sustains an injury directly related to their job, anyone who wants to reduce their risk of injury, and anyone who is looking to be more ergonomically efficient in their job.

If you are seeing an outside healthcare professional before seeing the athletic trainer, it is important to notify the athletic trainer on site to ensure consistency of injury care between your athletic trainer and outside healthcare providers. .
