During the Covid-19 lockdown, online courses became the need of the hour, and massive open online course (MOOC) sites that host online courses also took off, with people around the world enjoying lockdown to improve their skills, often for free through various offers on these sites during the pandemic.

The Covid pandemic that hit the country had led medical professionals and healthcare executives to immerse themselves in courses to learn what the virus is about and how to approach patients affected by it.

Apart from degree programs offered by colleges and institutions, interested students can enroll in short-term online certificate programs in virology through various online websites such as SWAYAM, Coursera, Udemy, among others. .

Virology via SWAYAM

The twelve week course offered by Sri Dharmasthala Maanjunatheshwar (SDM) College will help in understanding the nature, host and replication of different groups of viruses, spread and management of viral diseases.

The course will cover topics of origin and evolutionary significance of viruses, visualization and enumeration of virus particles, physical and biological methods of virus detection, etc. The online course will be led by Dr Katenahalli Rudrappa Maruthi. The application process will close on February 28.

India’s national MOOC platform, Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM), offers over 2,150 courses taught by approximately 1,300 instructors from over 135 Indian universities.

Coursera’s course – COVID-19 Contact Tracing – helps learners take a unified, evidence-based approach to saving the lives of Covid-affected patients.

The eleven-week course offered by Coursera – Virology I: How Viruses Work – emphasizes the common reactions that must be completed by all viruses for successful reproduction in a host cell and to survive and spread within it. a host population.

The course will cover topics that include structural virology tools, how viruses regulate cellular translation, etc. The online course was taught by Vincent Racaniello.
