How to Convert a PowerPoint Presentation to Google Slides

How to open a PowerPoint presentation with Google Slides

Google Slides supports many common presentation formats including PPTX, PPT, POTM, POTX, etc. The latest versions of Microsoft PowerPoint use the PPTX extension and luckily Google Slides supports this format.

Google Slides doesn’t require you to make any changes to the original PowerPoint presentation. You can open PowerPoint files seamlessly with just a few clicks.

  1. Go to your Google Drive.
  2. Navigate to the directory where you want to store the PowerPoint presentation.
  3. Click on + New in the upper left corner.
  4. Select File download.
  5. Select your PowerPoint presentation from your device.
  6. Click on Open. Your file will now be uploaded to Google Drive.
  7. Once the download is complete, double click on the file.

Just like that, you can now view and share your PowerPoint presentation in Google Slides. The themes and style present in the PowerPoint presentations will remain intact.

How to import PowerPoint slides into a Google Slides presentation

In some cases, rather than the whole thing, you may want to implement only certain slides from a PowerPoint presentation into a Google Slides presentation. Thanks to Google Slides Import slides feature, you can directly import the slides into Google Slides and you won’t have to recreate them.

  1. Go to Google Slides and open your presentation.
  2. Go to the Case menu.
  3. Select Import slides.
  4. Go to the To download tab, then click Select a file on your device.
  5. Select your file then click Open. The slides from the file you just selected will appear.
  6. Click on the slides you want to import.
  7. Click on Import slides.

The PowerPoint slides you just selected will now appear in your Google Slides presentation. If the elements in your PowerPoint slides were editable, they will also be editable in Google Slides. As before, themes and styles used in PowerPoint slides will also carry over.
