How to change slide size in Microsoft PowerPoint

One size doesn’t always fit everyone. So if you need a different size for your PowerPoint slides, you have several options. You can use PowerPoint to create a banner for your website, need 35mm slides, or want a widescreen to maximize your viewing.

How to quickly change slide size in PowerPoint

You can select a quick option to change the size of the slides in PowerPoint. This gives you a quick way to switch between the standard screen and the widescreen.

  1. Go to Design tongue.
  2. Click on Slide size in the Customize section of the ribbon.
  3. Choose between Standard (4: 3) and Widescreen (16: 9).

How to choose a different slide size in PowerPoint

In addition to Standard and Widescreen, PowerPoint offers over 10 additional slide sizes. So, you are sure to find one that you need.

  1. Go to Design tongue.
  2. Click on Slide size in the Customize section of the ribbon.
  3. To choose Custom slide size on Windows or PowerPoint on the web or Layout on Mac.
  4. Use the Slides sized for a drop-down list to select a size from the list. You will see options like stationery, A4 paper, 35mm slides, banner, overhead, etc. When you select a size, you will see the Width and Height adjust so that you can confirm it is the size you need.Select a slide size in PowerPoint
  5. Click on Okay.
  6. Decide how you want to adjust the content to fit the new size of the slide. For Windows or PowerPoint Online, choose Maximize or Ensure the fit. On Mac, choose Ladder or Do not stagger. Although labeled differently, you have to choose whether you want to maximize the size of your content or reduce it to make sure it matches the new slide size.

How to customize a slide size in PowerPoint

If you need an exact size for your slides and none of the options provided are right for you, you can use custom measurements.

  1. Go to Design tongue.
  2. Click on Slide size in the Customize section of the ribbon.
  3. To choose Custom slide size on Windows or PowerPoint on the web or Layout on Mac.
  4. Use the Slides sized for a drop-down list to select a size closest to the measurements you need or select Custom to enter yours.
  5. Adjust the sizes in the Width and Height boxes to your exact measurements. You can enter the sizes or use the arrows for slight up or down adjustments.
  6. Click on Okay.
  7. For Windows or PowerPoint Online, choose Maximize or Ensure the fit. On Mac, choose Ladder or Do not stagger.
