How to blur part of an image with PowerPoint
Although PowerPoint does not have a blur control, you can use different shapes to blur a particular part or area of ââan image. The steps for the same are listed below:
- Launch Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Insert a picture on a slide.
- Select a shape and place it on the part you want to blur.
- Select the Eyedropper tool and choose a color.
- Select shape effects to blur the selected part of the image.
- Gather the entire image and save it to your computer.
Now let’s see these steps in detail.
1]Start Microsoft PowerPoint.
2]Now go to “Insert> Images“and select the image you want to insert into a slide.
3]To blur a particular part of an image, you need to cover it with a shape. To select a shape, click the Insert tab then click Shapes. You can select a shape of your choice from the displayed list.
4]After selecting a shape, draw it over the part of the image you want to blur. To do this, place your mouse on one side of the image, keep its left click pressed and drag it to the other side.
5]The drawn shape will be blue by default. Therefore, the fuzzy shape will also be the same color. But if you want, you can change the color of the shape using the eyedropper tool. To do this, select the shape then go to “Format> Shape Fill“and select it Pipette tool.
6]After selecting the eyedropper tool, choose a color by clicking anywhere on the slide.
7]Now, under the Format tab, click the Shape effects then select Soft edges. After that, hover your mouse cursor over one of the options shown in the soft edges. When you place your cursor, PowerPoint displays the preview of the blurry shape.

8]Now press and hold the Ctrl on your keyboard and select both the blurry shape and the picture. When you are done, go to “Format> GroupÂ»And click on the Group option.

The selected part of the image has been blurred. Now you can insert this image into any slide in your PowerPoint presentation.
If you skip step 8 above, the image will be saved as the original image, that is, the saved image will not contain any blurry part.

How to remove part of an image using PowerPoint?
You can easily remove any part of an image in PowerPoint using the Shapes tool. We have listed the steps for the same below.
Let’s look at:
- Launch Microsoft PowerPoint and insert a picture on a slide.
- Go to “Insertion> Shapesand select a shape. Now place it over the part of the image you want to remove.
- Now click in the empty space to deselect the shape you inserted in the slide.
- Press and hold the Gap on your keyboard and first click on the image, then click on the shape. This will select them both.
- Click on Format in the Drawing tools section and go to “Merge Shapes> Subtract. âThis will erase the selected part of the image.
If you do not select the image and shape in the correct order as explained in step 4 above, you will not get the results you want.

How to highlight part of an image in PowerPoint?
You can also highlight part of an image in PowerPoint. By using this feature, you can draw the attention of your viewers to a particular part of an image. The steps to do this are listed below.
To make it clearer for you, we took a camouflage image that an owl is trying to hide in.
- Launch Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Insert an image there.
- Place a shape on the part of the image you want to highlight.
- Merge shapes.
- Insert another shape into the slide and change its color and transparency accordingly.
- Arrange all the layers until you get the desired results.
- Group all the layers.
- Save the image to your system.
Let’s take a look at these steps in detail:
1]Launch Microsoft PowerPoint and insert a picture into it.
2]Now you need to place a shape on the part of the image that you want to highlight. To do this, go to “Insertion> ShapesÂ»And select the shape of your choice.
3]The next step is to merge the shape and the image. To do this, first deselect the shape by clicking in the empty space. After that, press and hold the Gap and click first on the image, then on the shape. Now click Format under the Drawing tools and go to “Merge> Fragment. “
Note that you will not get the results you want until you select the image and shape in the correct order.

5]Now you need to make the whole image dull except the part you want to highlight. To do this, select a rectangular shape and place it over the entire image. After that, change the color of the screed to black and increase its transparency as needed. To change the color and transparency, right click on the rectangular shape and select Format the shape. After that expand the To fill heading and select Solid infill. Now click Fill color and select the color black. Move the slider to adjust the transparency of the image accordingly.
